Making a lamp

Meli and I went antitiquin’ at EPIC antiques in SODO. We ended up picking up a really cool lampshade with no base for $30. Looking around I couldn’t find a base, so I decided I could make one!

The business next to my work left a bunch of shit behind when they vacated including a bunch of stainless welded cubes.

Using a grinder with a cutoff wheel I cut a square into the bottom of the cube so I could wire it on the inside.

Then I drilled a hole for the lamp harp, a switch, and a hole for the wire to come out the back. I used a sanding disk on the grinder to clean up all the heat affected zones on the metal where the seams were welded – doing my best to round the corners nicely. Then I hit the whole thing with 60 grit sandpaper using a random orbital sander and cleaned it with alcohol. Then I put things together and soldered the switch into the circuit.

And it all lit up!!!!

I am super happy with it!!!
