Sat on little waterfall bridge and drew this of the car bridge in Frink park.

I feel like I did a good job considering that dense ubiquitous foliage is not intuitive to draw. I need to do some youtube studying here. My approach was to try and get things that were farther away even more washed out, but I was trying to balance this out with feeling of “this looks boring” and “I am getting bored”. Some of my other paintings which I would consider more sucessful, either take advantage of a stronger subject and the messy detail is okay, or the subject is far away and thus is naturally deconstructed (especially when i don’t wear my glasses). Regardless, I am pleased enough – good to just get out there.

Another potentially obvious realization I had while painting this was that copying the scene is a job for a camera and thus I shouldn’t worry about being too true to the scene. So by that measure I added the rock and the red flowering weed in the foreground to add some depth and interest. Additionally, I added the water of the small stream into the scene. Painting can better capture a minds eye, or the representation of a place. I think that in a moment we scan a surrounding and piece together a composition that is really flashing images of many small compositions that pique some resonant chord. The painting should I think be attracted to combine those mental elements to convey at least a self satisfaction.
