Research: HydroVolts

Hydrovolts was a micro-hydrokenetic turbine startup I worked for while going to Seattle University. They had aimed to put a turbine in every canal and spillway around the us to generate power or to pump water out of those canals for irrigation.

I analyzed turbine data and reported to the engineers on how well each turbine iteration was performing – Using VBA programming to handle huge excel files. I also did light fabrication, mechanically assembled and did electrical for new prototypes.

The pictures above show a turbine that had experienced a resonance issue and self destructed, leaving the blade assembly to sink to the bottom of the Duwamish river (where it still likely is). The blue turbine was a success, generating 6 KW of power!
